After the worldwide success of it's predecessor, the Preppy Wa Modern Maki-e returns with a new limited edition for 2024.
Like the previous version, the body is decorated with six traditional and elegant Japanese patterns using a unique Japanese technique called modern Maki-e. Each pattern has a special auspicious meaning, and you can choose your favorite one based on the design and meaning.
Hyotan (Gourd)
The fruit of the gourd has a constricted shape in the center, and because of its interesting shape, it was made into a pattern along with the vines and leaves. Because gourds have many seeds, they are popular as auspicious patterns that bring prosperity to descendants. The Sennari gourd, which bears many fruits, is famous as Toyotomi Hideyoshi's horse seal.
Tachibana (Citrus tachibana)
Tachibana is the only wild mandarin orange in Japan. In Kojiki (records of ancient matters in Japan), Tachibana is described as a plant of Tokoyo no Kuni (the utopia of immortality). And it is considered a symbol of eternal prosperity and longevity, and is used as an auspicious motif.
Koi no Taki-Nobori (Carp climbing up a waterfall)
Carp with strong vitality is considered the chief river fish. And it is also said to be an auspicious pattern that symbolizes success in life, based on an ancient Chinese story that says, "A carp that climbs a rushing waterfall ascends to the sky and becomes a dragon."
Nasu (Eggplant)
The Japanese word Nasu is a homophone that means "things will go well" and "success," and people have loved it as a pattern that brings good luck. It is said that "Ichi-Fuji, Ni-Taka, San-Nasubi (Mt.Fuji, hawk, and eggplants)" will bring good luck if seen in the first dream of New Year, and it is a plant that is familiar to Japanese people.
Yanagi ni Koumori (Bats and Willow)
In China, the kanji for bat has the same sound as "turning into good fortune," so it is considered an auspicious pattern that symbolizes good fortune and longevity. Japan was also influenced by this and was seen as a symbol of happiness during the Heian period.
Asagao (Morning Glory)
Morning glories were introduced in the Heian period for medicinal purposes, and their cultivation became popular during the Edo period, where they began to be depicted in ukiyo-e. Because the seeds are expensive, it is also said to be a symbol of wealth and prosperity. It also has the meaning of "solid bond" because it grows with a strong vine.

Shipping
Online orders are packaged within 2–3 business days after purchase and are typically sent via USPS Priority Mail. If a shipping carrier is not specified at checkout, we may use similar services such as UPS Ground or USPS First-Class Mail that could take an additional 2–3 days to arrive at your address.
Customers who would like to pick up their orders may select the Pick Up option at checkout. Completed orders are available for pickup during our regular shop hours:
Monday-Saturday: 11am–6pm
Sunday: 11am–5pm

Local Area Delivery
For customers who live within three miles of The Paper Mouse, we offer local area delivery services when you make a purchase on our website.
Customers with eligible addresses will see a local delivery option at checkout when placing an order online. Delivery has a flat-rate fee of $5. Orders will be delivered after 5pm on the next business day after the order is received.
International Shipping
International orders may be subject to import fees, duties, or tariffs that are determined by the country of delivery. The Paper Mouse is not responsible for these charges, nor are we able to calculate them prior to shipment. We advise that you work with your local Customs office to determine these charges prior to placing an order.
If a shipment is refused due to unwanted fees, duties, or tariffs imposed by Customs in the country of delivery, you will be charged for both original and return shipping, as well as all associated fees.
Please understand that delays due to Customs processing are out of our control.
Out of Stock Items
In the event that an item you purchased goes out of stock, we will attempt to contact you to see if you wish to exchange with a different item or receive a refund. If we are unable to reach you within 72 hours, we will automatically refund the unavailable item and ship the remainder of the order to you.
Returns and Exchanges
We accept returns and exchanges for unused or defective items for up to 30 days with proof of purchase. Returns and exchanges on food, calendars, dated planners, and engaged pens are not accepted. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. For more details, please see our Refund Policy.
