Spotlight: E. Frances Paper

E. Frances Little Notes

On the front of one tiny notecard, a lone penguin totters toward you in a green pom-pom hat. On the back, another hatted penguin peers over at an earmuff-wearing companion. A different notecard features two birds nestled together lovingly on the front, while the back displays a delicately patterned china teacup filled with plump pink worms.

The illustrations of E. Frances Paper are funny, heartwarming, and delightfully unexpected. A family business owned by two sisters and a cousin, this stationery company exudes a sense of joy and fun that touches everything they create. Owners Ali Flippin, Jenni Laundon, and Emily Roberts named E. Frances after their beloved grandmothers, Elizabeth and Frances. Their stationery features Ali’s playful watercolor illustrations, and they work out of a renovated car garage in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Paper Mouse staff are longtime admirers of E. Frances Paper. In early 2020, we were finally able to give in to temptation and stock up on their fabulous stationery. First we picked up their Little Notes, tiny flat cards that can be used as lunch notes, place cards, gift tags, memos, and more. Next we added their wonderful notepads and notecards. This year we’ve brought in their sweet and funny greeting cards, plus some lovely desk accessories like a handmade ceramic holder for their Little Notes and a keepsake box for holding cards and memorabilia.

It’s hard not to smile at E. Frances’ illustrations. They bring levity and joy to everyday tasks like writing a grocery list or jotting down a reminder. We especially adore their clever Little Notes, generously packaged in sets of 85, which fill a need in the stationery world for a versatile small notecard. We enjoy the high quality paper E. Frances uses, and we also appreciate their commitment to exploring environmentally responsible materials and processes, like phasing plastic out of their packaging and printing on FSC certified paper and recycled paper.

I first found E Frances at a store in Olympia WA only to find out later it was produced 40 miles away from my home in MA. My favorite note cards.
Thank you, keep putting that pen to paper.
