Hobonichi 2025 Preview
We’re counting down to September 1st, also known as Hobonichi Launch Day. The day Hobonichi releases their planners and accessories for the new year is a big event in the stationery world. This week we’re giving you a preview of the 2025 lineup so you can be ready to grab your favorites as soon as sales open!
What We’re Carrying This Year
Planner Books
As always, we’re carrying the flagship A6 Original Techo and larger A5 Cousin Techo with a daily layout, including both the softcover book refills and the hardcover HON version. We have the English-language version as well as the Simplified Chinese version of both planners. We've got the tall and slim Weeks Techo with a weekly layout, in lots of cute new cover designs. We’re also carrying the Avec Book, a handy version of the planner (in Japanese) that’s split into two separate books so it’s thinner and lighter to carry. And if you wish your A6 Original Techo had weekly spreads, we’re carrying the Weekly Calendar supplement that you can slip into your cover pocket. Finally, we have the more open-ended Day-Free Book (in Japanese), with monthly pages and notebook pages for free journaling.
Large 5-Year Techo
New to our shop this year is the Large 5-Year Techo, a special memory book with space on each page to write a small entry for the day over the span of five years. Over time this book becomes a precious record of your life throughout the years. We got the large A5 size (available in Japanese only) so there’s plenty of space to record your memories.
Planner Covers
We had so much fun choosing different planner covers! This year there are some truly special covers from different illustrators and designers. In addition to the classic Techo covers, we’ve got Hobonichi’s newest cover design, Alettone, made of flexible PVC with clear pockets where you can store accessories. We also have last year’s popular Tragen cover with a built-in pencil pouch. As usual, we’re carrying Cover on Cover protectors, transparent plastic sleeves that you can slip over your cover to keep it clean.
Pouches
Brand new from Hobonichi this year, Tragen Flat Pouches can hold the Hon Techo and they also work great as pencil cases or handy carrying pouches for odds and ends. They’re made of the same lovely nylon material as the Tragen cover and we think they’ll be just as popular. New to our shop this year, Small Drawer Pouches are compact carrying cases that are great for organizing your tools, with pen loops, a zippered pocket, and several slots for cards and other small items. We love these for pencil cases, thread cases, or even for a large wallet.
Notebooks and Memo Books
This year, Hobonichi has expanded their selection of notebooks quite a bit! Now in addition to their classic memo pads and grid notebooks, we’re carrying their new blank and lined notebooks. If you love Tomoe River paper but are looking for a notebook instead of a planner, these are perfect—and they’ll also fit inside your planner cover as a supplement to the planner. Also new this year are the Fireside Chat Notebooks, colorful memo books with playful quotes on the covers in new B6 and B7 sizes. Finally, this year’s illustrated notepads have an update with adorable cover illustrations from artists iyo okumi and Keiko Shibata.
Pencil Boards
There are lots of cute new pencil board designs this year. These handy accessories double as a bookmark and a writing surface that you can slip under your page while you write. We have pencil boards to fit all three planner sizes.
Accessories
Hobonichi has some brand new accessories this year! We love their Clear Folder sets, beautifully illustrated and great for carrying loose papers. Translucent Sticky Notes are great for flagging pages in your planner and come in a cute illustrated holder. Stick a clear Add-On Pocket to your journal page to hold tickets, cards, and postcards. Pick up one of their new
Deco Rush Tape designs for adding borders and underlines in your planner. And we’ve got the old favorites: stencils to add icons and shapes to your planner pages, index stickers to make it easier to flip through the months, and page keepers to help hold your page open while you write, plus card cases and photo albums you can add to your cover for extra pocket space.
2025 Staff Favorites
This year our staff was really taken with some of the new cover designs. Each year Hobonichi works with different illustrators to create some limited edition covers for their planners and notebooks. They always choose really playful and talented artists, and this year’s designs are no exception.
Masamune Kusano x junaida Covers
We loved this collaboration between musician Masamune Kusano and painter junaida. The illustrations are from their song-art book Himitsu Stranger. The Weeks planner “Through the Purple Night” was garnering big excitement at the trade show this year for its colorful cover and collectible pencil board that only comes with this design.
Illustrations by Hiroko Kubota
This year we adored all the whimsical illustrations by artist Hiroko Kubota: a mouse playing a moon harp, a fox delivering a crescent moon on a bicycle, a snow globe filled with sparkling cherry blossoms.
Illustrations by Yumi Kitagishi
Likewise, Yumi Kitagishi’s playful and colorful illustrations captured our hearts last year, and we loved this year’s batch just as much. Her tiny animal portraits mingled with everyday objects are utterly delightful.
It was hard to play favorites when there were so many great designs to choose from. These are just a small sampling of the designs we’re carrying this year! We hope you’ll have fun browsing through the 2025 Hobonichi lineup and finding just the right planner and accessories.
